What the estimate covers

The range covers the work every website needs. A few costs sit outside it.

Included

Strategy, design, development, on-page SEO setup, testing and launch, plus one contact form.

Not included

Third-party costs such as hosting, domains, stock images, fonts, paid plugins and payment fees.

How we estimate

We price each part of the work in hours from our own projects at one rate, then round the range out to the nearest $500. A short call turns it into a fixed estimate by phase.

What changes the price

Every answer moves the range. Here is what each answer adds to a 5-page site.

Number of pages

A site of 6 to 15 pages costs about $6,500 to $10,000 more than one of up to 5. Pages that share a layout cost less than new ones.

New site or redesign

A redesign that keeps your content adds about $1,000 for migration and redirects, so your search rankings carry over.

Who writes the text

Writing the copy for you adds about $1,000 to $2,000 on a 5-page site, and more on a bigger one.

Features and connections

An online store adds about $6,000 to $9,500 and a blog about $3,000 to $4,500. Each connection is set up and tested.

How custom it looks

Custom visuals and rich animation add about $5,500 to $8,500. A clean and simple look is included.

Language and accessibility

A second language adds about $1,500 to $2,500 with your text, or $3,000 to $4,500 if we translate it. The WCAG 2.1 AA audit adds about $1,000 to $1,500.

What a website costs after launch

The build is a one-time cost. These run monthly or yearly once the site is live.

Hosting

Paid to your host each month or year. We can move your hosting, domain and email for you.

Domain

A .ca or .com renews every year with your registrar.

Care plan

Updates, backups, security fixes and small changes each month. Optional, and priced on the call.

Licences

Paid plugins, fonts, apps and store fees, if your site uses them.

Website rules by province

Some provinces set rules your website has to meet.

ProvinceWebsite rules
Manitoba New web content at WCAG 2.1 AA for organizations with at least 1 employee (Accessible Information and Communication Standard)
Ontario WCAG 2.0 AA for organizations with 50 or more employees and the public sector (AODA)
Quebec A French version of the website is required (Charter of the French Language, as amended by Bill 96)

Agency, freelancer or website builder?

Each suits a different site. The calculator prices the agency route.

Website builder

You build and run the site yourself on a monthly plan. It suits a simple site when you have more time than budget.

Freelancer

One person designs and builds it. It suits a small site with a clear brief and the content ready.

Agency

A team covers strategy, design, development and launch. It suits a site that has to bring in leads or sales.
